How to Add Members to a Group Manually

Follow

When you want a specific list of people in a group and don't want to define them by an attribute, you add them manually using + Manual select. This is useful when you want to hand-pick the membership, or when the people don't share a common attribute you can match on.

You can combine manual selection with criteria in the same group if you need to. For example, you could include everyone in your Finance business unit by criteria and also manually add three people from another team.

Adding Users One at a Time

  1. From the sidebar, under USER MANAGEMENT, click Groups.

  2. Open the group you want to update.

  3. In the Members section, click + Manual select.

  4. Search for the employee by first name, last name, or email address.

  5. Click the employee to add them. They will appear in the list below the search box.

  6. Repeat for each additional user.

  7. Click Save.

The added users will appear in the Members list with "manual" indicated in the Method column.

Adding Users in Bulk via CSV

If you have a large number of users to add, you can upload a list instead of picking them one by one.

  1. Open the group.

  2. In the Members section, click + Manual select.

  3. Click Export CSV Template to download a template in the correct format.

  4. Fill in the template with the users you want to add.

  5. Upload the completed file using the upload option on the same screen.

  6. Click Save.

The uploaded users appear in the Members list, each marked "manual" in the Method column.

Removing a Manually Added User

  1. Open the group.

  2. Find the user in the Members list.

  3. Use the row's remove action.

  4. Click Save.

Note: Removing a user from the Members list is not the same as excluding them. If the user would otherwise match the group's criteria, they will be added back the next time the group is evaluated. To stop that from happening, exclude them instead. See How to Exclude Users from a Group.

A Note on Active Campaigns: If the group is the recipient of an active campaign with a welcome email, manually adding (or removing and re-adding) an employee can trigger the welcome email again, even if that employee has already completed the assigned tasks. Think carefully before editing the membership of a group that is attached to an active campaign.
